Playing with Rock & Roll legend Chubby Checker was definitely one of the biggest highlights of my life.
On July 23rd, 2008 I played with Chubby and half of his current band at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This came just after playing a showcase with him in NYC in March, and The CBS Early show July 19th.
At this point I wasn’t even in the band. I was invited to play these select shows. That day at the Hall of Fame I was asked if I could play a major gig in Admindon, VA with Chubby’s regular touring band. The gig was in 4 days. I said yes of course.
I didn’t even know all the music. I had only played about 10 songs for the past few gigs. This new gig was about 50 songs. I learned all of the songs on the tour bus on the way to Virginia. It was not a smooth ride either.
It was the Highland Festival and there was about 20,000 people there for this outside gig. Quite a way to get my feet wet. What a great experience.
A few weeks later I became the official guitar player for the next 4 years.
Great times for sure.
