Talk about having “Nothin’ But a Good Time.” Thats what playing in an 80’s cover band is all about.
It’s not always peaches and cream when you’re playing in a working band. It’s a lot of hard work rehearsing, and preparing. I will admit that sometimes there’s head-butting too.
But when it’s time to perform, having a good time is what it’s all about. It’s the 80’s, the most fun decade in music. The Godfather of 80’s guitar Eric Presti (Jessie’s Girl) once said to me “You have to be a clown out there.”
Eric’s right. The fans that come out to see an 80’s music show want to see a good band and have a good time. It can’t be to serious.
In 2013 I was subbing for a very popular 80’s band that had a weekly gig in New York City. It was rare that I got to play but the times that I did I absolutely loved it. I grew up loving this music and I finally had a reason to play it.
Not only was I learning great music and becoming a better musician because of it, I was also getting paid for it. A win win.
Fast forward a little bit. I was offered a gig subbing for another 80’s band called White Wedding. I all ready knew the music. All the 80’s bands pretty much play the same set list. I was chomping at the bit to play more 80’s.
That gig with White Wedding went great. It went so great that when their guitar player left I was offered the gig. I was very happy. I was finally the guy. I had a full time gig playing 80’s music and I loved it.
In the picture above from left to right is Drummer Joey Cassata, Keyboardist JC Keys, Singer Vicky Modica, Singer Keith Berg, Bassist Gregory Richardson, and myself.
Musicians come and go in working band’s. I’m so grateful to have played and toured with these great people. The one main stay is Keyboardist JC Key’s. He’s not only the keyboardist but he’s the manager, booker, and all around great guy.
I had so many great times playing with White Wedding. For years we rocked audiences. We did party like it was 1985. You can still see White Wedding. Check them out online. I’m back to subbing for them. At least I think so, and would love to. They still have one of my guitar amps. Haha.
It was because of this time dissecting guitar solo’s that I’m now able to give lessons on my Youtube channel on how to play them.
I release weekly videos on Youtube giving guitar tips, lessons, and performances. Check out this video of me teaching Poison’s “Talk Dirty To Me.” Enjoy, and thank you for reading. Please like and subscribe.
