I want to give it up to the guys who have been playing in the Jerry Cherry Band with me for years. Felipe Torres on the drums, and Ricardo Rodriguez on the bass. It would be hard to find cooler guys who are as talented on their instrument as these two.
I met the both of them back in 2005. About a year after I moved to New York I started playing guitar with singer/songwriter Dan Torres. Dan is an amazing, talented singer who is currently based in Spain. He performs under the name Samuel Hope. Please check him out.
In Dan’s band the drummer was his brother Felipe, and bassist Ricardo. We had a really great chemistry in that band. We played all around NYC. We were one of the first bands to play at Rockwood Music Hall. I can still see the condensation on the glass walls, seeing people outside trying to get into the packed club that Frozen February of 2005.
When it was time to find some musician to play my original music I didn’t have to look too far. These guy were solid and dependable. Felipe was also playing drums in the Davy Jones band (The Monkees). Ricardo was a seasoned session player around New York City performing with many singer/songwriters.
The three of us played many shows around New York City. When it came time to record my Album “Life Is Sweeter…” I was very happy to have them play on the whole record.
A few years later before I officially joined the Chubby Checker Band I recommended the two of them to perform with Chubby on the CBS morning show. They both crushed it.
Even on my latest release “Married to Myself” where I played every instrument, I used some of there ideas in my performances on the tracks. I give them much credit for that.
Please check out Felipe Torres, and Ricardo Rodrigues in all of their musical endeavors. They’re really great guys.
When the pandemic is over you will see us three Knuckleheads back in action. We look forward to that day.
I work very hard releasing a Youtube video every Wednesday. I focus on helping guitar players become successful by giving tips. tutorials, and performances. Please check out my latest video, and subscribe. Thank you,
Jerry
